I have returned from the land of Spring and Cowboys

Ah, Texas.  How I love thee.  Let me count the ways:

  1. In February, it was nearly 80 degrees outside. It felt like May in Colorado.  I should have packed sandals and capris.
  2. The food.  Oh dear god, the food.  I'd be super fat if I lived there.  Fried pickles were on the menu everywhere we ate.
  3. Assuming I could resist fried pickles like 4% of the time, I'd be a skinny girl in Texas.
  4. One of my most favorite people in the whole wide world (DH's cousin) lives there.
  5. There is a store called Cheaper than Dirt Guns right down the road from where we stayed.  I get that this doesn't fit with my Crunchy Hippie Chick persona, but it's one of the reasons I'm a wanna-be, not a bona fide Crunchy Hippie Chick.  I like to shoot.
  6. I was amongst my people.  And by "my people" I mean Cowboy fans.
  7. I can buy Cowboy stuff, cool, fun, awesome Cowboy stuff, in the friggin' grocery store.
This was at Albertson's, y'all!

So now we are home.  Chubbier than when we left (at least I am), but glad we went.  I don't even have regret for the fried pickles.  They were that good.  I won $140 at the poker tournament, finishing in 3rd!  There were 28 people in the tournament, so I am super pleased with that.  Top woman, too.  GIRL POWER, bitches.  Don't be pushin' me around.  I should have taken my $140 in profits and run down the street to Albertson's, walked up to someone in charge there with my sweaty wad of cash (it's humid there, even in February), and said "How much cool Cowboy shit can I get for this?"

What I did not do in Texas was run.  Or eat right.  So perhaps it isn't the ideal location for me :D

Oh, in case you were on the edge of your seat, wondering how my doctor's appointment went on Thursday...  Well I guess it went good.  The wrist is healing, but i still have this $#(&#@ splint on, and will probably get to keep it for another month.  That does not make me a very happy camper.   No sewing, no weight bearing exercise (Krav Maga, Crossfit, pushups, etc) for at least that long.  So.Frustrating.

So today I'm planning to get out for a run.  I've decided to not run a half marathon in Cinci.  I will run the 10K instead.  Every time I get to the point in my half marathon training where it's time to run 8+ miles for my long runs, I get struck with the I-don't-wanna syndrome.  So, and this is brilliant y'all, maybe I shouldn't force myself to do something I don't enjoy.  It makes me want to not run at all.  Like, I don't even want to do my short 3-4 mile runs anymore.  It's like if I am not going to do it right, I am not doing to do it AT ALL.  So I'm giving myself permission to not feel like I have to do a half marathon.  Brilliant, I tells ya.  Instead, I'm going to focus on running consistently throughout the week.  Consistent 4 milers have to be better for me than what I've been doing.  Which is bitching about how I need to run, but don't want to.  So for this week, that is my goal.  4 runs, 2 spins.

  1. 1. I love the longer hair in your picture.
    2. Running consistently, if not superlong distances, is a fantastic goal
    3. Speaking of fried foods, fried sushi is a big thing in California. I learned about it yesterday. Slices of California Rolls are battered and fried. I didn't eat one.
    4. What is it about living in Colorado that makes it easier to maintain a lower body fat amount? Is it less of a fast-food culture? I've lived in Tennessee and there was so much more fast food out there. California? Not sure yet.

  2. I don't know, but Colorado is the skinniest state in the US, so they must be doing something right. It's so much easier to eat better here, than Texas, or KS, that's for sure!
